Section 20
Things not to be done by a notary public
A notary public should not do the following things:-
(a) To authenticate a document not registered in the register book of his office,
(b) to certify that a document is genuine,
(c) to authenticate a document executed by himself,
(d) To authenticate documents related to his interest and business,
(e) to attest the document of his nearest relative, Explanation: For the purpose of this section, "nearest relative" means such relative as may be prescribed.
(f) To reveal what he knows while attesting a document without obtaining the consent of the person who authenticated the document except in accordance with the law,
(G) To modify, amend or add to the documents or documents that are protected by him,
(h) To authenticate the document without delivering it as per section 27,
(i) to authenticate any document in an unauthorized or fraudulent manner,
(j) to charge more than he is entitled to charge for the authentication or translation of a document,
(k) to translate doubtful documents,
(l) to translate the dates, figures or expressions mentioned in the document differently,
(d) to act as a notary public outside his jurisdiction,
(d) To authenticate a document without the presence of the person making the document,
(n) to act contrary to the Code of Conduct,
(p) to do any other act contrary to this Act or the rules made under this Act, and
(th) To do other work as specified.
